Organize a building party.  While this will take some planning and preparation, a great way to introduce yourself to your neighbors in your apartments for rent in New York, is to have a party.  A great way to get people to come is to offer something fun and engaging such as a fund raiser for a local park, animal focused charity, or other local nonprofit that may need some financial assistance.
